Chapel hill

We enjoy our stay in Chapel hill, it is well located close to Mount Coot-tha reserve and in easy connection with Brisbane City. A 15 min drive to the Guyatt Park, embarking the city cat ferry on the Brisbane river and 10 minutes later you are in the centre of the city. Many people living in the Brisbane suburbs take the boat to their work, as during the rush hours it gets busy on the roads and parking in the city is not cheap (but still better than in Belgium). In contrast with Samford where we stayed before and had lot’s of space, house plots in Chapel hill are much smaller meaning less than 12 are and not flat. Many houses have big terrasses to enjoy the views on Mount Coot- tha and to maximize the small plots. Although we are close to the city, there is still plenty of wildlife here, we saw a lot of  pink and white cockatoo’s, which like to make a lot of noise at dusk. The black bird on the picture is the bush turkey, you often see them here in Australia, not sure if the Australians eat them with Christmas 😊

On Thursday we got the first thunderstorm of the season.  To be honest not really comparable to what we are used to in Belgium, it was even so bad that we got out of electricity for more than 6 hours, which is very unusual for Chapel hill. Thunderstorms are very common in October, November, so more to come in the next weeks. Australian recommend you stay inside, have your car protected and just wait till it is over…oh yes and don’t forget to make sure the water is collected in your tanks for drier moments..
