Wynnum, a nice bay village

This afternoon we will discover Wynnum, a small village South of the Brisbane international airport. The village lies along the coast and has a nice bike path, parklands with a small aquapark and a big wading pool filled with water from the sea. The beach itself is not sandy but mud, this allows the seagrass to grow, which is important to feed the dugongs which are often seen in the Moreton bay Region. The dugong (Dugong dugon) is the only plant-eating mammal that lives its entire life in the marine environment. Often called sea cows, these shy, slow moving creatures spend most of their day feeding on seagrass. Interestingly, dugongs and their relatives are more closely related to elephants than any marine mammal.
