Mount Coot- tha

Today we spend half a day out at the Mount Coot-tha reserve. Mount Coot-tha is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘place of honey’ its names this because the Aboriginal people of the area used to come to the mountain to collect ‘ku-ta’ (honey) that was produced by the native stingless bee. Mount Coo-tha measures 302 meters high and is the highest point in the Brisbane surrounding allowing great views as far as the Glass House Mountains in the North, Gold Coast hinterland in the South and Moreton and Stradbroke Islands in the East. There are several walking and mountain bike tracks that lead to the top of the hill. Kids enjoyed running around in the forest, the view on the city from above was nice, but could be better on a sunny day.. We learnt that Brisbane was a very European style city in 1911.
